Many know it as one of the great cultural institutions of our city, but few might know that it was the very first regional ballet company in the nation. Ninety years later, under the direction of artistic director Gennadi Nedvigin, Atlanta Ballet is pushing the boundaries of dance as the Southeast knows it with innovative performances. INSIDER TIP Don’t forget about Atlanta Ballet 2, which brings in performers via audition from around the world. Performances of The Swan Princess Feb. 13 through 16 and April 10 through 12 this year are for the under-12 set.
Now in its 40th year, The Atlanta Opera has won a host of accolades (including an International Opera Award). The Opera’s goal is to redefine and reimagine what opera can be. INSIDER TIP Don’t sleep on their spectacular season—there’s still plenty of crowd-pleasing shows to see in 2020 such as Salome (Jan. 25 to Feb. 2), Porgy and Bess (March 7 to 15) and Madama Butterfly (May 2 to 10).

The highlight this year is undoubtedly the much-buzzed-about Virgil Abloh: Figures of Speech after a successful showing in Abloh’s hometown of Chicago. It’s here until March 8.
