When Jodi Bond first set her sights on a white house on top of a hill just outside her sister’s neighborhood, she never would have guessed where the journey of revamping the fixer-upper would take her: “I was like, ‘Oh, cool; people are following me on Instagram; this is great,’” she says with a laugh. New flooring, a few paint jobs and one knocked-out wall later, and House on a Sugar Hill (@houseonasugarhill) has more followers than the average fashion blogger—59.K and counting, and boasts an Insta feed most millennials would kill for.

For Bond, the Pinterest-worthy pad with yellow kitchen cabinets and floral-flamingo wallpaper is much more than just the filtered snapshot. “I really want to be here to create the home that I love and not necessarily a home that will go viral on Instagram,” she says. So she relied heavily on her affinity for pretty, girly pieces—think a pink sofa and doily-inspired rugs—rather than being overly influenced by Instagram’s top trends. “This is the stuff that makes my imagination go wild and happy,” she says.

A velvet olive green sectional and floral flamingo wallpaper serve as the bonus room’s focal point.

Bond relied on a neutral color palette with pops of colored accessories for most of the rooms in the charming home, allowing for more flexibility, as seasons, trends and personal tastes often change. “I like rooms that can breathe,” says Bond, and, although she had no design experience when she first started decorating the House on Sugar Hill, she now has the recipe to the perfect room: “Light, greenery and a pop of color is totally my jam,” she admits.
