Self-Care Through the Lens of Frank Ishman

Self-Care Through the Lens of Frank Ishman

Frank Ishman’s photography career has taken him all over the world to capture fashion, celebrities and everything in between. With his world travels and list of high-end clientele, Ishman has garnered a few favorite people and places that help him be his best self. Here's the world of Ishman's self-care through his own lens.

My Favorite motivational speaker/mindfulness instructor

Without a doubt, Dr. Joe Dispenza has changed my life. He has explained all the science behind meditation and his courses have put all of the decades of my meditation into focus. Whether you read his books or listen to his courses, you will leave with a better connection to the mind and body. If you do nothing else check him out, and if you’re lucky enough to attend his live sessions, don’t miss it.

My favorite gym and restaurant

I’m really lucky to have my gym, restaurant and “offsite office” aka the roof deck, all in the same place. Lakeshore fitness is the spot to keep you going all year long. The people are amazing, the staff is out of control friendly and on the roof is the amazing restaurant, Harvest. They have a great beer and wine selection as well as a great menu and a killer view. Did I mention they have an onsite physical therapy department? One-stop shopping!

"Frank is one of our Harvest regulars! You can find him almost every day working from one of our rooftop cabanas enjoying the view and of course his favorite menu item, “The Beyond Burger”. Frank is a big supporter of Lakeshore Sport & Fitness’s food and beverage program”. - Chef John Diaz

My life-saving cobbler

My wife and I walk all the time and on the weekends and will casually do 15 plus miles without thinking, so having a good cobbler is a must and Gus’s is just amazing. He’s quick and can handle all types of shoes from the casual kicks to extremely formal shoes.

My top clothing companies

Well, my style is a little country and a little rock & roll. My favorites brands are Uniqlo, Levi’s and Filson, though when it comes to hats I’m a Stetson man. I'm a true believer that clothing must be lived in no matter how much you pay for something; everyone has there own style, this is mine.

My two favorite bars in Lincoln Park

My two favorite bars in Lincoln Park are The Red Lion on Lincoln and Galway Arms on Clark. They're both places that you feel at home and everyone’s not always looking down at their cell phone, people actually talk there. They both have fireplaces and great bars with engaging bartenders that make you always feel welcome.

My favorite apps

My two favorite apps are Evernote and Fitbod. Evernote keeps you in line with your projects across all of your devices and as a paid service, it lives up to all the hype when it comes to staying organized. Fitbod is my second go-to as it helps me keep track of muscle groups which allows me to give my body enough time to rest and rejuvenate before my next workout. For me, working out with the ability to listen to music and engage with the app is a plus. These two programs allow me to stay focused and clear-minded going into the new year.

My go-to camera of choice for image creation

The long and short of this is I’m a Hasselblad shooter through and through and the new Hasselblad X1D ll 50c is an amazing camera and my main workhorse. However, I also shoot Fujifilm digital as I sometime need to be stealth on film sets. Between these two cameras, I feel that anything is possible as a portrait/ lifestyle photographer.
