The story of how 100 years ago an Italian count invented the unofficial cocktail of summer.
The history of the Negroni traces back to 1919 when Count Camillo Negroni ordered his usual Americano with gin instead of soda water. The now cult favorite cocktail couldn’t be simpler: equal parts Campari, gin and sweet vermouth deliver the perfect balance of sweet, bitter and herbal. A traditional one is finished with an orange slice, but this being a city of reinvention, we don’t get too hung up on traditions.
Miami bars offer plenty of spins on the Negroni. At Ariete, the Negron-sito uses coffee-infused gin; The Apocalypto Negroni at Diez y Seis at The Shore Club features mezcal. And Kiki on the River's Greek Lightning Negroni introduces Mediterranean flavors and a dash of orange bitters.
