Sports and fashion are no longer two opposing worlds. In fact, over the past decade we have seen the two industries begin to strongly influence each other: with sport stars such as Victor Cruz and Lebron James becoming front-row staples at fashion week and menswear as a whole shifting to a more casual and relaxed aesthetic. This week, the two worlds continue to collide with the announcement that Louis Vuitton will become the first official Trophy Travel Case provider for the NBA’s Larry O’Brien Trophy.
“ The tradition, heritage, and identity of Louis Vuitton create a natural synergy with the NBA, and this partnership provides a unique and befitting way to showcase our championship trophy to fans around the world,” stated Mark Tatum, the NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer.
Shaped like one of the French fashion house’s famous trunks, the trophy case is covered in Vuitton’s classic monogram and sports a large V in the center that stands for victory in the league’s signature red, white, and blue hues. For contrast, the interior is upholstered in cobalt blue micro-fiber fabric to keep the trophy in prime condition along with two drawers that provide additional storage space.
Along with the expansive partnership, Louis Vuitton also announced that they will create an annual limited-edition capsule collection inspired by the NBA, but did not announce a specific release date yet. When the time does come though, we’re betting you can count on ultra-luxurious clothing, sneakers, and bags that go just as well with your sharpest suits and they do your weekend wardrobe.
