Being able to call Hawaii home is something many people dream of one day being able to do. I am fortunate enough to wake up in paradise every day, surrounded by some of the best people and places that help me live my best life here in the islands.

FITNESS

One element that helps me to be my best self is staying physically active. My schedule can get extremely hectic, but I make it a point to carve out time each day to participate in some physical activity. From early morning yoga sessions at Core Power Yoga to training under one of the most experienced and knowledgable Crossfit coaches, Kimo Kockelman at Crossfit Hawaii, there are a variety of exercises I commit myself to in order to stay physically fit.

There are a lot of qualified trainers out there, but my trainer David Hamlin is one that is not only a great motivator but also helps me create personalized and unique workouts that make each day a challenge. David is a certified personal trainer with the National Academy of Sports Medicine and continues to find new ways to reinvent your average day at the gym. David also posts useful tips, exercises and motivational posts on his social media accounts that can be used by his followers that take the “planning” out of working out. For anyone living in the 808 or visiting Hawaii and looking for a work out while on vacation, David’s laid back attitude, genuine demeanor and commitment to helping his clients get results make him one of the best up and coming trainers in Hawaii.

Here in Hawaii, where the weather is never really an issue, there are several ways to take advantage of the natural beauty and incorporate these elements into workouts that help lead to an overall active lifestyle through scenic hikes, open ocean swimming and beach workouts in the sand.

What we eat and how we take care of our bodies are essential parts to being able to lead a successful and healthy lifestyle. One thing that helps me accomplish this is a meal prep service here in Hawaii called “Good Clean Food Hawaii.” The twice a week delivery service provides customers with healthy meals and options for those following specific meal programs like Keto, Plant-based or Paleo. As someone who is always on the go, these meals are the perfect way to help me stay consistent when trying to eat healthily.

Another thing I like to do is find a few days each week to incorporate circuits of extreme thermal cycling between a sauna and circulating ice-bath at the Honolulu Club. Following the theory of famed surf icon Laird Hamilton, this hot/cold routine helps in overall aid recovery, mitigates inflammation and promotes healthy blood circulation.

I’ve learned that to feel good, you’ve got to look good. Finding your style and developing your brand is something that has evolved for me over the years. I love to find ways to incorporate modern fashion with local flair and one of my favorite brands that help me accomplish this is Sig Zane Designs from my hometown of Hilo. Sig Zane (who is also an ambassador for Mensbook.com) is one of the most respected and talented local designers in Hawaii with his unique prints and ability to weave in Hawaiian stories, traditions and history into each print. Other favorite stores and brands of mine that I often frequent are Nordstrom, Ted Baker, Lulu Lemon and even Zara.

But my absolute favorite brand in my closet has to be my Rob McAllan Shoes. Rob McAllan is a luxury shoe that feels like a custom athletic sneaker. With proprietary insoles, lightweight upper materials and finely tuned design patterns, these shoes are exquisite in design and the most comfortable shoes I own. The creator, Rob Greg, is a friend of mine who lives in New York City and has been helping to outfit me in these unique shoes for the past two years. I love to wear them around town or when traveling and they have been great conversation starters at networking events while making me look good. Celebrities like Sterling K. Brown, Terrence Howard and Jason Derulo have also been seen spotted sporting the shoe at significant media events.

My favorite style is ‘The Swat’, a Military inspired high-performance shoe designed for extreme flexibility and features premium grade woven fibers, .22 caliber bullet casing eyelets, metal accented heels and premium-grade rubber infused leather heels. - $595 robmcallan.com
