For more than 50 years, Eli Thomas Menswear has brought top-quality men’s clothing to Silicon Valley.

I discovered the iconic San Jose men’s clothier in 1995 while looking to upgrade my business-casual wardrobe. I was impressed by the quality of the brands that they offered, including Canali, Corneliani, Zanella, Eton, and Gravati. The look is classic, yet stylish—but never trendy.

But it was the service that really hooked me and ultimately keeps me coming back time-after-time.

Jim Thomas, the third-generation owner, spends six days each week in his family store. He knows exactly what sizes I wear, and my preferences in regard to style, color, and tailoring. Jim earned my trust because he’s not afraid to tell me when he feels something works for me—and when it doesn’t.

Equally as important is the in-house tailoring. When I find a sportscoat or pair of slacks I like, Jim brings out his tailor who marks up the article of clothing immediately. He and his tailor discuss with me my options in terms of style and fit. And they don’t cut corners: for example, shortening my sleeves at the shoulder—and not at the cuffs like most tailors.

The bottom line is that dressing well is important to me. When I look good, I feel good. I enjoy shopping for clothing and I’m not ashamed to admit that I do it wherever and whenever I can. But in the end, Jim and his team at Eli Thomas Menswear are my ‘go-to’ men’s clothier.
