Charlie Schaefer is no novice when it comes to developing sportswear. After 13 years working alongside Ralph Lauren, most recently as the vice president of design, Schaefer made the decision to do something bigger and create his own brand, Greyson Clothiers. Since then, Greyson Clothiers has flourished, becoming a go-to for golfers and active community members who have a yearning for fashion.
Recently, Palm Beachers got to experience the fashion-meets-function styles firsthand when Schaefer opened his shop in The Esplanade. His choice to open here, rather than The Royal Poinciana Plaza or the other side of Worth Avenue, was unique, but, for Schaefer, it was exactly what he was looking for. "I believe that the east side of the island, where we are, gives off a mysterious vibe, where people need to come find us," says Schaefer. "When they do that, they become a customer and a friend, and, hopefully, part of our pack."
That feeling of inclusivity goes far beyond its location. At Greyson Clothiers Schaefer hopes all customers will experience more than just a typical shopping excursion. Alongside his polos, joggers, and outwear designs, there is a putting green, a pool table and an overall feeling of home. "When shoppers walk into Greyson, it will hopefully take them somewhere other than where they are," he says. "They will feel at home, like they are sitting in their own living room."
While the experience and his designs are important, the most precious thing for Schaefer and his brand is his team. "We didn't call the company Charlie Shaefer because it's not about one person. It's about the team, and that's the experience we can give people." One step into the store, and you'll feel part of the team too. 150 Worth Ave., greysonclothiers.com
