He’s nicknamed “Showtime.” He’s flashy in the ring and on Fox Sports broadcasts, and when he gets dressed up, it’s always to the nines. Here, the former world champion boxer and Vegas resident explains whether it’s boxing, dressing or board games, Shawn Porter is the most competitive person you will ever meet.

How did you get into broadcasting?

SHAWN PORTER: The first interview I remember doing, I was 10 years old. I can’t remember the questions, but I just remember handling that interview like a professional. As I got a little older, I started doing radio and TV here and there. And when PBC [Premier Boxing Champions] joined forces with Fox, they wanted active fighters to be a part of it. I was like, ‘Nobody’s gonna take this job from me.’

What made you into the sharp dresser that you are today?

SP: I wore hand-me-down clothes for a long time, and I hated it. So, when I got a little older, we were in Hollywood and I was walking past a suit shop where I could get three suits, three ties, three belts, for 300 bucks. None of it really fit me the way it fits me now, but I loved the fact that I could get it for myself, and it meant a lot to me... I have my own tailor today. MALDOX Custom Clothing does all my suits.

What is the origin of your signature Windsor knot?

SP: People all the time would say, ‘Man, your knot is so big!’ And everyone would say I can’t do that. And the fact that you can’t do that makes me want to do it even more. I want to have my own look.

We heard you love playing board games and card games. Why?

SP: I think it’s just a combination of seeing my family play card games and board games, and of course doing strategy games like crossword and word searches with my gran at a young age. You combine that with my level of competitive spirit, and you get a madman.
