Production will begin next month on BMW’s new 2 Series Gran Coupe. The Gran Coupe promises a “performance-oriented entry point into BMW ownership.”
Powered by a 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine, the 2 Series will come in two flavors, the 228i xDrive and the M235i xDrive. The 228i xDrive Gran Coupe delivers 228 horsepower and 258 lb.-ft. of torque for a zero to 60 mph run in 6.0 seconds. Top speed is limited to 130 mph or 151 mph when equipped with the optional performance tires. The M235i’s four banger, on the other hand, churns out 301 horsepower and 332 lb.-ft. of torque. BMW installed a larger turbocharger for the extra power, while modified fuel injectors and improved cooling ensure the M235i’s performance under more demanding conditions.
The M235i xDrive Gran Coupe roars from zero to 60 mph in a reported 4.7 seconds and reaches a top speed of 155 mph with the performance tires. Inside, the BMW 2 Series Gran Coupes comes standard with power Sport seats covered in Oyster/Black Sensatec or Black Sensatec on the 228i xDrive Gran Coupe. Dakota leather is standard on the M235i xDrive Gran Coupe in either Magma Red, Mocha, Black with Blue highlights or Oyster. Look for the new 2 Series Gran Coupe to arrive at dealers this March, at which point BMW will announce official pricing as well.
