Bentley’s super posh SUV, the Bentayga, is going electric (well partially) for 2020. The Bentayga Hybrid is Bentley’s first step toward electrification and marks the company’s most efficient vehicle ever built. A permanent magnet synchronous system offers 94 kW peak power and 400 Nm of torque, which combines with a 3.0-liter turbocharged V6 engine. The battery recharges in just 2.5 hours and is capable of a roughly 25 mile total driving range in all electric mode. The combined system generates 700 Nm of torque, for what promises a swift 5.2 second run from zero to 60 mph. Top speed is 158 mph and Bentley promises no turbo lag thanks to the electric motor’s instantaneous torque, so the whole system sounds extremely impressive. Bentley reports it takes some 130 hours to manufacture the vehicle at their Crewe, England headquarters and expect the new $160,000 Bentley to offer a range of bespoke features. Look for the Bentayga Hybrid to reach Bentley dealers in the first quarter of 2020.
