Ryan Paddock is bringing an intelligent blend of technology and design to Atlanta residents with his business, A Mindful Home.
Unlike any intricate architectural details or the striking interior furnishings of a well-appointed home, Ryan Paddock’s work is meant to go largely unnoticed. Think lights that subtly shift shades and brightness in tune with your circadian rhythm. High-performance speakers built into the walls and ceilings. The turntable needle configured to drop on the record the moment you arrive home and open the door.
It’s an assemblage of climate, entertainment and security systems “that so seamlessly melds into the design and decor of the home, you’d never know it’s there,” as Paddock explains. But, moreover, it’s technology orchestrated to create an intuitive at-home experience that enhances daily living. “A lot of people are focused on selling products and then figuring out how to fit them in,” he says. “I want to see your space, understand your lifestyle and then design everything based around how you live.”
That integrative approach is fundamental to his business, A Mindful Home. A lifelong tech lover, Paddock worked in the home technology industry for a number of years before starting his own company in January. To be clear, the custom solutions he offers are much more sophisticated than what you’d find in any average so-called “smart home” with a handful of IoT devices. Another differentiator: A Mindful Home ensures clients have the infrastructure to support the plethora of devices and systems. “I have to start at the power grid,” Paddock explains. “It’s important that we protect the gear you’re investing in and set up the system to be reliable.” That means installing robust wiring infrastructure to make sure everything stays up and running at all times, including the wireless network. “The enterprise-grade Wi-Fi system they run at Mercedes- Benz stadium? I can deploy the same product.”
It’s serious technology, but you can have fun with it too, Paddock assures. A former client had his security system set up so, when triggered, his speakers played “The Imperial March” from Star Wars at the highest volume while his lights flashed bright red on and off.
