Best yoga instructor: Dan Carter, Danimal Yoga: Dan is someone who listens to each student and is able to quickly customize a practice that is really geared intentionally to your personal needs. I’ve enjoyed working privately with Dan to expand my flexibility and mobility, as well as take a much-needed rest from the hustle and bustle of life.
Good Eats
My favorite bar and restaurant in DC are both at the Jefferson Hotel, Plume Restaurant and Quill Bar. I first fell in love with The Jefferson Hotel Restaurant and Bar about 10 years ago. The classic aesthetic is right up my alley without being too stuffy. Sean Mullian, the restaurant manager, is the pinnacle of service and kindness. David Bueno, GM of the hotel, makes sure that everything on the property is top-notch. The drinks are carefully curated in the bar, and it’s one of the few classic piano bars in DC. You’ll find me hidden away in Plume or in a cabinet room at Quill more times than I care to mention.
Favorite place for a quick bite that has the highest quality food, La Piquette on 38th Street NW. Chef Francis curates the most delicious traditional French cuisine and even accommodates a Francophile vegetarian. Some of the most fun nights in DC are at La Piquette having cognac with Chef Francis-lots of laughs and one too many orders of frites.
Most fun chocolate place to find treats for gifts and for my own love of chocolate, Capital Candy Jar. Dave Burton is a true class act with the best treats in DC. I LOVE the chocolate covered pretzels when I’m going for the classic salty/sweet combinations. We give our guest APO artists Dave’s candy as a thank you for joining us after every concert. I’m also a huge supporter of Capital Candy Jar because it’s all made locally, supporting local businesses is a major priority of mine.
Gifts Galore
Favorite place to find gifts, Periwinkle Gifts on Connecticut Avenue. The owner Judy curates the most beautiful collection of things for just the right gifts. It’s so hard to find something classy and fun to take to a host or hostess and Judy has everything you could want. I’m also pretty partial to the classic Louis Sherry chocolate she carries, the beautiful tins and great chocolate are a frequent guest on my nightstand.
Favorite place to find antiques S&K Consignment on Wisconsin Avenue. I'm a big antique collector and am always trying to find a hidden gem. Be ready to dig into piles of things, stacked high on top of each other. I often feel like I’m going into Aladdin’s cave when I go in.
Wheels
Favorite car dealer, Mercedes Benz of Alexandria has been my go-to car dealer for years. You can't beat an MB and I can always count on the best car service when I go there. I also love that I can be in and out with a new car in 3 hours or less, I’ve got it down to a science. Paperwork is already done and I always get what I want for my trade, you can’t beat that.
Style
I live in Warby Parker glasses, I have 18 pairs ready to wear at all times. I’m a lover of classic style and I think their glasses give just the right amount of edge to a mostly traditional wardrobe.
Hands down best hair stylist in the city, David Beck at Salon Quency. David is the stylist who knows how to get your hair to the best cut with so much attention to detail. My favorite part of getting those cuts is also the chatting, nothing like a good reason to blush while getting a shape up.
