Engineers at Soundcast bring you a speaker for use where you really shouldn’t be using speakers. The $750 Soundcast VG5 Portable Weather-Resistant Bluetooth Loudspeaker exists to pound out powerful sound in environments where electronics use might otherwise be ill-advised, but where music is still desired.
Water and weather resistant, the VG5 is a beefy brick of a speaker about the size of a cinderblock — and just as tough. Buyers can trot it out at the pool, on the slopes or along the beach and enjoy two three-inch, full-range drivers with a six-inch subwoofer and two Class D amplifiers. Add all of that together and you get a total of 70 watt sound via the-drivers and 60 watts from the subwoofer.
A rechargeable onboard battery should keep the tunes pumping for about 10 hours, while the latest Bluetooth 4.2 technology keeps the VG5 connected to a smartphone, tablet, computer or mp3 player. gosoundcast.com/vg5
