Boston - Chairman and Founder of Upland Capital Corporation
Bostonian businessman Bernard Chiu has been living in Massachusetts since the early 1980’s after making the transition from life in Hong Kong to life in America. Chiu, who doesn’t have an official degree, has established over 100 U.S. patents in attempts to simplify people’s lives. “I created innovative products to make people’s life easier,” says Chiu. Aside from being the chairman and founder of Upland Capital Corporation, Chiu now spends his days in Chestnut Hill, enjoying Celtics games, golfing at one of the New England courses that he built, and riding around in his Porsche 911.
I grew up in Hong Kong and have been living in the Boston area since early 1980’s.
Half a marketing and half an engineer but I don’t have an official degree.
I enjoy watching all kinds of sports, particularly the Celtics.
Golf, so much so that I built a couple of golf courses in New England.
My first trip to South Africa was three years ago. I love it and want to explore the rest of Africa.
I am ready to see animal migration in Africa.
B’s Lobster at Bettini in Martha’s Vineyard.
Roxana’s Rainbow Cookie has become my favorite dessert.
My Little Clam Pasta never disappoints.
I vividly remember a trip I had with two guys driving on a winding road from San Francisco in the Redwood forest to Oregon. Ship your favorite car there, if you ever want to try that.
I can’t remember how many times I watched Top Gun.
Porsche 911 Convertible.
Another Porsche 911?
Not my cup of tea.
I seldom wear watches. If we do, I rotate my collection of Patek Phillipe and Rolexes.
The stainless steel Daytona.
I got it all.
Hot coffee is my go to drink in the morning year round. It sounds boring but I like it.
I discovered Port when I bought a company in Portugal. The purchase unbeknown to me came with 500 bottles of very special Port. It has become my favorite after meal drink since then.
South Beach, Martha’s Vineyard and Miami Beach.
I don’t really enjoy running errands on the weekend.
Riding my bike and hiking wherever I can.
Learn to love what I do.
I report to no one.
I am inventors of over 100 U.S.patents. I created innovative products to make people’s life easier. I now run my investment firm in commercial real estate and hotel. It is a big change jumping from consumer products to real estate. The challenge makes it interesting for me.
I am happy that I am part of the solution in today’s problems.
I pick up my hard copy of Wall Street Journal and the Boston Globe every morning. There is no tablet that can replace the papers and magazines in the morning.
