Art lovers—this is literally begging for your attention. Yayoi Kusama’s exhibit Love Is Calling heads to the Institute of Contemporary Art / Boston this month. The ingenious installment is the largest and most immersive of Kusama’s famous Infinity Mirror Room series, masterfully weaving together her signature polka dots, soft sculptures, brilliant colors and more.
“We are thrilled to share Yayoi Kusama’s groundbreaking work, beloved by audiences around the globe,” says Jill Medvedow, the ICA’s Ellen Matilda Poss director. “Love Is Calling offers visitors the opportunity to experience the artist’s notion of the infinite.” Hailed as an icon of contemporary art, Kusama began making immersive, mirrored environments to explore the experiential qualities of the infinite.
The show encompasses a darkened, mirrored room illuminated by vibrant tentaclelike sculptures, accompanied by a recording of the artist reciting a love poem in Japanese. The ICA is also presenting Beyond Infinity: Contemporary Art After Kusama, exploring her influence and legacy on the art world. Opens Sept. 24, 25 Harbor Shore Drive, icaboston.org
