The stylish British boat captain from Yacht Charters Hawaii takes us from his Kaka’ako neighborhood to the Hawaiian waters.
Originally from southwest London, Ross T. Mason grew up sailing near his family’s weekend cottage in the coastal town of Cornwall, but it wasn’t until he came to Hawai‘i 12 years ago that he became a captain. Now, he spends his days on the water, taking visitors along the shores of Waikiki and on interisland jaunts on high-speed yachts and a luxury 57-foot Beneteau sailboat, Vanessa.
On Fashion
On an island of casual dressers, Ross stands out with his impeccable style. “I was always dressing up as a child,” says Ross. “I love wearing suits and ties and keeping it classically British.” Since moving to Hawai‘i, he tries to incorporate more vibrant colors in his wardrobe, and his go-to designers show this mix of classic and island- style, from Ralph Lauren and Quicksilver to local favorite and good friend Roberta Oaks.

On Island Life
“I live in Kaka‘ako, which I love. The whole area is amazing, with such a good selection for food, from Moku Kitchen to Bevy,” says Ross. You can find him grabbing breakfast at Morning Brew before biking to work at the Yacht Club. Ross, an avid surfer, tries to stay active even when off the water, whether hiking on the weekends or heading to the North Shore to ride horses with polo players.

On the Water
Yacht Charters Hawaii offers a variety of different charters, customized to your needs. Ross recommends one of the most popular, and most fun, options: a three-hour sunset cruise. After snorkeling with the turtles just off of Waikiki, you’ll be served food and drinks, and sail.
Unforgettable views are abundant while aboard in Hawai‘i.
